The Bath Moment

Newborn’s Everyday Life: The Bath Moment (Part 4)

How to bath a baby? The bath moments

The recommended bathing time is before the evening feeding. The bath not only cleanses the skin but also promotes muscle relaxation.

You can bathe the baby immediately after returning from the hospital. If the umbilical wound is not yet completely dry, It is recommended to add a weak solution of potassium permanganate to the bath. It should be diluted in a separate container so that it accidentally the grain that fell did not burn the skin. Subsequently, the use of potassium permanganate can be abandoned, replacing it with a decoction of herbs or herbal infusion with an anti-inflammatory effect, such as chamomile.

Add a small amount of baby soap to the water or washcloth, and gently bathe the rest of the baby from the neck down. Uncover only one area at a time. Rinse with a clean washcloth or a small cup of water. Be sure to avoid getting the umbilical cord wet.

In the first month of a child’s life, it is recommended to bathe without using soap. It dries the skin too much and is only required when heavily soiled or changing diapers. You can use special shampoos with a neutral pH (5.5-6.0). This is the optimal acidity that does not have an unpleasant effect on the skin.

Water temperature for children in the 1st half of the year should be 36.5-37 C and for children in the 2nd half of the year 36 – 36.5 C.

The duration of bathing can be 5-10 minutes. Don’t forget to prepare a pitcher of clean water to rinse the baby after the bath.

Subsequently, the water temperature can be reduced by 0.5-1.0 C during the week, gradually bringing it to 33 C. This will begin the process of hardening the baby.

After bathing, thoroughly pat dry (do not rub!) the skin with a soft diaper and treat the skin folds with baby lotion in the following sequence: behind the ears, neck, armpits, and groin. Do not also forget to treat the umbilical wound (according to the scheme indicated above).
